Dial-up Networking

How to install Dialup Networking 

  1. Click on the Start button, then choose Control Panel from the Settings menu or double click on My Computer icon on the Desktop and then double click on Control Panel.

  2. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. 

  3. Click on the Windows Setup tab. 

  4. Click on the Communications option and click on the details button. 

  5. If it's not already there click to put a check mark next to 'Dial-up Networking'. 

  6. Click on the Ok button. 

  7. Click on the Apply button and follow any instructions (i.e. 'Insert Disk') 

    If the message appears that insert Windows 95/98 CD, be sure that you insert the correct CD of Windows, whichever version you have, type in the exact location path in the pop up menu to indicate where the files of Windows 95/98 are located. 

    After copying the files, you will be prompted to restart the computer now.

  8. Click on Yes.

How to make the AOL Dialer

  1. Double click on My Computer icon. 

  2. Double click on Dial up Networking icon. 

  3. Double click on Make New Connection icon. 

  4. Type AOL in "Type a name of the computer you are dialing".

  5. Click on Next. 

    Type the phone number 13111675 or any other access number to connect to the internet. (Note: Area code and Country code is not necessary). 

  6. Click on Finish.

Netscape Navigator 4.7 Installation

  1. Double click Netscape Navigator's Installation file.

  2. Click on Yes when prompted to install Netscape Navigator.

  3. Click on Next to continue.

  4. Click Next (destination directory).

  5. Click No when prompted to install Cool Talk (this step is unavailable for some versions of Netscape Navigator).

  6. Click on I Accept (License Agreement). 

  7. Configuring Start Page

  8. Click Options on the Menu bar. 

  9. Click General Preferences.

  10. Click Appearance.

  11. Click OK

Configuring Mail and News Server

  1. Click Options on the Menu bar. 

  2. Click Mail and News Preferences. 

  3. Click Servers. 

  4. In Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server, type smtp.aol.com.pk

  5. In Incoming Mail (POP3) Server, type pop.aol.com.pk

  6. In POP3 User Name, type your UserID 

  7. Click on the Remove from the Server option in the field Messages are copied from the server to the local disk, then. 

  8. In Your Name, type your Name.

  9. In Your Email, type your mailto:[email protected]

  10. In Reply-To Address, type mailto:[email protected]

  11. In Your Organization, type the name of your Organization (optional).

  12. Click OK.

Configuring Netscape Communicator

Follow these instructions if you are using Communicator for the first time: 

  1. Double click on Netscape Communicator icon on your Desktop and press NEXT. 

  2. Answer the questions, which follow. Press Next to proceed. 

  3. In Full Name type your Full Name. 

  4. In User Name type your UserID. 

  5. In E-mail Address type your email address. (e.g. mailto:[email protected])

  6. In SMTP server type smtp.AOL.com.pk

  7. In POP3 server type pop.AOL.com.pk

  8. After entering all the details click Finish.

Internet Explorer 5.0

  1. Open the Internet Explore and then click on Tools. 

  2. Click on Internet Options and then on Connection. 

  3. Place a dot on Always Dial my Default Connection.

  4. Select the Dialer of AOL from the Dial up Settings box.

  5. Click OK and then again click OK in all options.

Outlook Express

  1. Open the Outlook Express and click on Tools. 

  2. Click on Accounts and then on Mail. 

  3. Click on Add, then click on Mail. 

  4. Type Your Name in the Display Name. Then click Next. 

  5. Type your email address (for example: mailto:[email protected]) then click on Next. 

  6. In the Incoming Mail Server (POP3), type pop.aol.com.pk

  7. In the Outgoing Mail server (SMTP), type smtp.aol.com.pk 

  8. Click on Next. Click on Log on Using. 

  9. In POP Account Name type in your UserID. 

  10. In the Password, type in your Email password. Click on Next. 

  11. In the Internet Mail Account Name, type in AOL.

  12. Click on Connect Using My Phone Line. 

  13. Click on Use an Existing Dial up Connection and select the Dialer of AOL.

  14. Click on Next and then on Finish.

Windows 95/97/98/ME

  1. Dial-up Networking – Windows 95/97/98/ME

  2. Double Click on My Computer Double Click on Dialup Networking Then double click on Make New Connection.

  3. When a window appears, on first screen write AOL in Connection Name.

  4. Click on Next On Second screen write 021 in Area Code, 13111675 in Telephone Number and Pakistan (92) in Country code.

  5. Click on Next and then Click on Finish

    When the Icon of AOL is appear, Right click on it. Click the Properties option On General tab, Uncheck Use Country Code and area code option Click on Server Types Tab Only Check Enable software Compression and TCP/IP

  6. Now Click on TCP/IP Settings button.

  7. The option Server Assigned IP Address Should be selected Select Specify the name Server address and write the following values;

  8. Primary DNS = 202.87.114.4

  9. Secondary DNS = 202.87.114.5

  10. Check Use IP Header Compression option

  11. Check Default gateway on Remote Network option

  12. Click OK on every open window

Windows 2000

  1. Double Click on My Computer

  2. Double Click on Control Panel Double

  3. Click on NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS

    Double Click on MAKE NEW CONNECTION The connection wizard window opens, Click on NEXT to proceed The next window asks for a NETWORK CONNECTION TYPE Select the DIAL-UP TO PRIVATE NETWORK option

  4. Click on NEXT to proceed Enter 13111675 in the telephone number field

    Click NEXT to proceed Click on FOR ALL USERS to make it available to all users or click on ONLY FOR MYSELF to keep it only for your own use Click NEXT to proceed

  5. Click Next on Internet Connection Sharing window. Type AOL in type a name you want to use for this connection field

  6. Click on ADD A SHORTCUT TO MY DESKTOP

  7. Click on FINISH to end.

    Double click the AOL shortcut connection Single click on PROPERTIES In General, click on CONFIGURATION button Select the maximum speed (bps) to 38400 In HARDWARE FEATURES, UNCHECK all option. The option of ENABLE MODEM SPEAKER should be checked, Click on OK

    Now click on OPTIONS tab In the dialing options, following should be checked: • Display progress while connecting • Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc. • Prompt for phone number Now click on the SECURITY tab Check TYPICAL (RECOMMENDED SETTINGS) option Select ALLOW UNSECURED PASSWORD in the field Validate my identity as follows

    Now click on the NETWORKING tab Highlight the option of INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) Click on PROPERTIES The option of Obtain an IP address automatically should be checked. Select the Use the following DNS server addresses.

  8. Write 202.87.114.4 in Preferred DNS server.

  9. Write 202.87.114.5 in Alternate DNS server.

    Click on the option of ADVANCED button at the bottom of this window Check Use default gateway on remote network option Click Use IP Header compression option Click OK on every open window.

Windows XP

  1. Dial-up Networking for Windows XP Click on Start Button Click on setting

    Click on Control Panel In the control panel double click on network Connection In network connection type click on Create a new connection In the wizard Window Click next to continue In the network connection type click on connect to the internet and then press next Click on set up my connection Manually , Then press next Select Connection using a Dial-up Modem Then press next Now type the name of ISP (AOl) then Press next

    Type the number (13111675 ) press next INFORMATION Account window appears Remove Check from use this Account name and password Keep check on make this the default internet connection

    Remove Check from turn on internet connection then press NEXT connection to my desktop and then press next Make check on Add a Shortcut to this connection to my desktop and then FINISH In the connection window click on properties

    Now click on networking tab Make a check on TCP/IP and click on Properties 20. Make a check on use the following DNS Server Address Preferred DNS Server (202.87.114.4) Alternative DNS Server (202.87.114.5) Click ok Click ok Connection window Appears Now Enter Your User name and password and click Dial
